2010 The Mobile Year

t-mobile-g1Would it it be unfair if we say '2010 will be the mobile year'. Similar claim was made last year, “2009 will be the mobile year”. We believe 2011 will also be the mobile year.

The continuous innovation, transition and increasing user base has completely changed the way we dial numbers. Can you name any technology which has evolved the way a mobile has? Hardly any. The rising number of mobile companies and the rising number of subscribers is a clear proof of advancement of mobile technology in Pakistan.

The mobile phones we use are not just mere phones but are being used for checking emails, GPS, social networking, camera, videos and oh! yes, making phone calls as well.

Next year increase in sales is also expected. With more mobile companies jumping in to compete, the market will definitely transform into a battle ground.

But the 'phone' part of a mobile will be marginalized to a great extent due to the increasing use of networking applications such as Facebook and Twitter. Thus we can definitely expect a PC-less world as mobiles will take over every function a single PC performs.

For decades people had been looking forward to speech recognition in their phones. By bringing the phone closer to your mouth and speaking a few words you can gain wonders of knowledge in just seconds. Next year we will also be witnessing barcode readers- which can take a phone directly to a website- included in more models, along with location-based services and use of sensors. 2010 will be all about handsets.

More than half of the world's population has a mobile phone of some kind. It wont be very long when everyone will be practically connected to each other through the ever evolving social networks being accessed through handsets. 2010 is the year to look out for.
