Mapping may refer to: the making of maps , as in cartography, surveying, and photogram. That’s what Google mapping is something about. Google Map is one of the very useful tool that one can avail on the web and the best thing abut it is the fact that it is contributed by volunteers around the globe. These volunteers map the places using Google mapmaker. 
On 2nd of January, this year a mapping party was arranged by Google at FAST University. The main theme behind this event was to create an awareness among the people from different fields of life and let them know the importance of such tools like Google Map Maker. Mr. Badar Khushnood, Country Consultant of Google Inc,Pakistan was one of the organizers of this event on the end of Google. Mr. Khuram; Assistant Professor FAST was the man who made this event possible to be held in FAST University Lahore.
Mr. Khuram at the start of the event, gave a brief introduction of what this whole event was about, and what kind of experiences the people in the Hall were going to have during the event. While addressing the audience Mr. Badar Khushnood revealed some real amazing news as he said that Lahore is the fastest Mapped city on the Google Map Maker and Islamabad is the cleanest Mapped City, He also described the past, present and future of this tool.
Mr. Monis Rehman, CEO of rozee.pk, Naseeb Networks described what his prospective is about this tool as he is also running a website called naqsha.pk. He also put stress on a point that information should be free and available to everyone.
Faraz who is one of the best mapper in the world was also there. Faraz did 48,000+ points on the map manually which makes him a leading mapper in the world. The other mapper there to accompany Faraz and both of them demonstrated as to how Google map maker actually works and to share their experiences. Some of the questions were also raised by the audience; as Hassan Talal, IBIT Punjab University asked “why can’t we involve the government in this work as they have a huge data which it can share and eventually government is one of the users of this tool ? ”
Dr. Anees, Punjab University Architecture Department, raised the point as to what is the gain to the mapper who is putting his efforts and time to do this job and on the other hand Google is enjoying the benefits ? He also said that the information we put on maps can also be used to an attack anywhere, including a man who was sitting in his drawing room !
In the session there was a joint presentation by Mr. Khurram, Assistant Professor FAST and Miss. Sarah Ahmad, Lecturer Beconhouse National University. They presented the importance of this tool and how it can be helpful in Urban Development. The description of the future prospects of this tool and the positive aspects of it which can fruitfully affect Pakistan.
A Lab Session was also arranged for every one who wanted to try the mapping, Where the mapping Gurus were helping those people who had interest in this work, so as to better understand the “art and science” of Google map making.

Yeah It’s Fun to map, I did work on map maker tool 7 months back and made almost 20 points. More interestingly I mapped Next Bridge on the map and put a marker for it as well.
