Can you possibly learn language by swapping simple sentences and statements on the internet?
Well yes you can. A website can help you with it.
Because learning language this way was never this easy. Log in livemocha.com and even a 15 year old can teach you the perfect way to read and write any language on the planet earth (and even outside. Ok I agree I am exaggerating now)
But hey! this amazing website can help you with any language even PASHTU and PERSIAN. Now I think I can finally improve my grade C in German and D in Persian.
The websites connects you with people instead of any machine. The live exchange of messages seems more like a fun game where you can easily learn even the most difficult bits. The thickly covered expensive CDs are now being replaced by chats, video conferencing and social networks completely. If you are still depending upon these old CDs for development and learning then let me tell you, it is time that you should get rid of them and enter the virtual world. Because this is the place where you can get in touch with any person around the world.
Livemocha, a Seattle based company with $14 million in venture capital financing, mixes a social network with lessons for more than 38 of the world’s more common languages. (nytimes)
The initial lessons are entirely free but as the steps move forward, and level advances the additional level requires fee (starting at $10 for a set of lessons) or an agreement to correct the work of other learners. The flashcards, required quizzes, any audio recordings or written or spoken material is delivered through a web browser.
Michael Schutzler, Livemocha’s chief executive, says
“The great irony is that even if you have years of classroom Spanish, you don’t have a lot of confidence to go into a bar and have a conversation,”
Maybe this is the right way of learning language. In agreement with the above statement it is very true that until and unless you have someone to exchange lines of foreign language you cannot actually learn it and converse the original way. It happens often that once a person learns a language but fails to incorporate the essence of language in it. By knowing what the real meaning of every word is, in today’s modern language is very important. But the most important bit is the daily slangs we use.
These words revive and energize the language. A word may be something else and it might mean something else and such words are never available anywhere in any textbooks. Casual connections with real people throughout the world makes this learning process the most memorable one.
“What actually cements the ability really comes down to interacting with human beings.” Mr. Schutzler said. He added, “My mom aced all of her English Lit before coming to the U.S., but when she came to the U.S., she couldn’t get a cup of coffee at the diner.”
Motivating and helping people in every step Livemocha often resembles to social games which are present on Facebook. For instance, there are flashcard exercises which show the total points earned through learning and teaching on the front page. Making learning a fun filled experience.
No matter which language it is, the fun filled experience makes even Chinese easy and simple.
“The problem for many people learning a language is that they can’t hear what the text is supposed to sound like,” said Peter Carroll, one of the founders. “We built RhinoSpike to get native speakers to read the text that we post, so that we can both see and hear what is being said.” Almost 2,500 recordings have been posted since the site opened in March.
