The other medium of making yourself visible is through social media. But this medium is considered as old fashioned. It is similar to the fact that you are standing in the market and you have to show your product to whoever passes by. Plus you have to know your audience and what exactly they are looking for.

No doubt, Social media is becoming too famous. By using social media you can promote your product and generate website traffic but SEO is going a part. SEO give you long term advantage in search engine placement or ranking.

This is Fatima from InkRaider. There were times when I used to work with codeweek as a content writer. I really like this magazine and read their articles on regular basis – no matter if I am not a part of team any more. I have just come here to comment on this article because I am directly linked with the SEO and optimization of InkRaider.
I personally think Both are good for site positioning but SEO has more substance than social media networks.
SEO is the backbone of site popularity. I personally only consider google backlinks and unfortunately google doesn’t index social media networks as backlinks. Google only consider backlinks obtained from good sites. The detail of GOOD SITES is also a complete story in it so cannot go in much details. Other sites like Yahoo, Alexa, etc can index social media networks as backlinks.
I think that social media is part of SEO. We can gain a partly advantage from the social media for SEO.
