Sony, Balls and SEO

by Admin on August 25, 2010

You must be thinking what exactly the connection between Sony, balls and SEO is.

Well yes, they are three entirely different entities but they came together when Social media marketing took a new turn in association with Sony Bravia. Confused? Don’t be

Once upon a time in San Francisco, it rained heavily, on one particular descending road.  This rain was not of water but of 25,000 colorful ping pong balls dancing and bouncing down the streets. Of different shapes, sizes and colors.

As the balls came bouncing down the cameras caught every colorful move. They were filming an ad for Sony Bravia. The massive project drew a lot of attention. But the most interesting part was yet to come. As the balls bounced down the hill more and more people (bystanders filmed) the amazing scene through their cameras.

Sony mesmerized by the idea decided to hold the scene tight and utilize it. They gathered all the bloggers, handing over mini Bravia TV and making them enter the scene, so that they can film it and place them on their blogs, this is called the power of media. Samsung ‘LCD TV was ranking top on the web right before Sony advert was launched. But allowing social media bloggers on the set, allowing them to film it and allowing them to upload the advert in any downloadable format Sony‘s ball did win the race. That is when Sony claimed the top ranking on every search bar. And Samsung died a sudden death on the search bar.

Sony embraced the power of social media as a result of which everyone wanted to embrace Sony‘s balls. Engaging social media was only a part of the game. Success only lies when you have the ability of creating imaginative and well thought out campaigns.

Social networking has given power back to people where the complete hold of online marketing lies with social networks.  It is similar to the fact that you are standing in the market and you have to show your product to whoever passes by.  Plus, you have to know your audience and what exactly they are looking for. And once you know it only then you can possibly engage the bystanders. Another important thing is to understand their thinking patterns. No matter how big is the crowd, you can always be heard. That is what will teach you to work in a targeted manner.

Social media remains a slow process whereas SEO at the end of the day is a quick win. Because with social media (despite the fact that it is effective, it also takes a lot of time. You have to familiarize yourself with the people, which obviously takes time.

There are many social media experts out there who don’t really understand the combination of Sony, balls and SEO. One has to have knowledge of the technical side as well. In order to reach the top rankings you need to learn a considerable amount of SEO.  Because at the end of the day, it all boils down to the fact, that SEO can provide quick and long term benefits.
