RBS Axes IT Jobs

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is planning to axe 1000 Jobs Company wide.  A large number of which belongs to its IT operations. With the off shoring bug, which has recently settled in their system, the bank has decided to offshore IT operations to US, India and the Far East.

“It will be a specially bitter pill for staff to swallow as RBS has decided to move some of the jobs abroad to the far east, India and America,” said Rob MacGregor, national officer at the union Unite. “Just three weeks ago, staff was boosted to hear of the £1.1bn half-year profit, yet today thousands of them are told that they have no future at the bank.

“The scale of the cuts announced today beggars belief and staff across the country today will be left reeling from this news. We continue to see a financial services sector which thinks the skills and expertise of its staff is a disposable asset with scant regard for the high level of services this very same staff provided to their customers.”

But a spokesperson for RBS said: “Having to cut jobs is the most difficult part of our work to rebuild RBS and repay taxpayers for their support.

“We continue to make efficiencies across our business and adjust our plans in line with the divestments we have been required to make by the EU. We will do all we can to support our staff, offer redeployment opportunities wherever possible and keep compulsory redundancies to an absolute minimum.”

The bank reported that axe will fall on the back offices, technology and property operations only. It was also reported that twelve UK centers are being closed and further three centers are under review.

Feeling of rejection is one of the worst there is. I would prefer a pay-cut over unemployment; at least till I can bounce back.
