Reported by Aamir Mushtaq

The introduction of mobile 2.0 applications is high in demand these days. Today, in the meeting, PTA stressed that the policy makers & providers of services and applications in south Asian countries should focus on providing broadband facilities to the whole region. Mobile phones are currently being used by a large part of Pakistan’s population. Thus, in order to increase productivity and awareness more can be added to the only calling and receiving factor.

Thus “beyond voice” has been introduced in this respect, as it will eventually help in growth and development of telecom industry of the country. “Beyond voice” refers to usage of mobile beyond mere receiving and attending phone calls. In short also referred to as ‘more-than-voice’ where a mobile stops being ‘a making and receiving phone call device’ and becomes a gadget where the users can even pay their dues and use the facility of sending receiving text and image messages.

The meetings main agenda was to introduce mobile 2.0 applications which would be the next wave of mobile usage. The meeting arranged by PTA in collaboration with LIRNEasia, Sri Lanka continued on April 27 comprised of four sessions followed by panel discussions among the key participants of the event. Representatives from Sri Lanka, Kenya, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, India, Philippines, Bhutan and other explained and provided their viewpoint through presentations for a clear view of their aim and objective.

With other countries attaining a lot of revenue through ‘beyond voice’, it is believed that with an extremely strong and highly mature communication sector it is time that we should start thinking in terms of growth and to improve strategies and data services. PTA Chairman Dr. Mohammed Yasin stressed on this particular fact said that we reside in a country which has a highly equipped telecom sector.

In 2008, only 10% of the Pakistan BoP (Bottom of the pyramid) knew about financial services available in mobile platform. Actual usage of these services is less than 1 percent. (Business Recorder)

We have been observing constant growth and development in this sector which has brought about remarkable results within a span of 5 years, attaining about million subscribers in 2004. Today we stand at 97 million which is expected to hit 100 million subscribers in the next 3 – 4 months. As Mobile 2.0 is the buzzword these days and is being considered as the most appealing subject to concentrate upon, ‘beyond voice’ has proved to be an area through which the other countries are attaining huge sum of revenues. Thus, ignoring this side of opportunity will only take us towards the darker side of the plan.

A couple of days back, we decided to go back i n time with the help of Way Back Machine and bring in front of you the most famous websites looked during their initial days. So here we go again on a trip to Pakistan’s most important and most visited Websites. This is how they appeared

The most visited website MOBILINKGSM in 2002, looked like this,

P@SHA’S Website in 2000

Website of State Bank of Pakistan in 2000,

The Bank of Punjab in 2004 had an entirely different look,

Back in 2001 flights, PIA, were booked and checked in an entirely different way,

Dailytimes has made many improvements since the past few years as a newspaper, but its website never had a chance of growing further. In 2002 it looked like this,

Lever Brothers (Pakistan) Ltd decided to remain the way they were. With no changes whatsoever ever in appearance their website, in 2003 looked exactly the same as it does today,

A jump start should never be the option. One should always start from one small thing and then build it every day. It is like taking a successful step forward every passing minute. Do you think all the major search engines and websites of various companies and newspapers have always been the way they are. No they have not.

So today, we decided to go back in time with the help of Way Back Machine and bring in front of you the way the most famous websites looked during their initial days. We humans are always inquisitive about how the world looked like in its earliest incarnations. We failed to get pictures of the world but we do have something for our readers something interesting which they can enjoy.

World famous internet company and brand actually started its journey in 1996 when Larry Page, joined by Sergey Brin. In 1996 Google was launched as,

Then in 1998 it moved many steps and Google looked like this,

A social networking website, Facebook, which is used by millions of users all over the world previously looked like this in 2004,

And twitter, on the other hand had a totally different look during its first launch in 2006,

YouTube, video sharing website, which you visit almost everyday from your offices, it used to look like this 2005,

And Wikipedia had a totally different face in 2001,

and then when we came across Amazon in 1995, it was something like this,

But the most Amazing and Shocking discovery was Apple in 1996. Today, we hear people saying ‘EVERYTHING APPLE‘. We want to show you where it started from,

Welcome to the APPLE WORLD

Your most famous median of NEWS on the cyber space, New York Times, looked like this during its first launch in 1995,

If you were a fan of Flikr then let us show you how far they have developed themselves since their launch in 2004,

This is how the old cyber world looked like a decade back, lets see in 2019, how far will they change and develop themselves. We will show you more of these. Thus you can see that nothing happens in split seconds everything and everyone changes and transforms in an entire different persona as the time passes by. When you look back through the wackback machine, only then you realize how far the cuber world has changed.
