Semi Final vs. Software Industry?

In software Industry, we know clients are our top most priority.  We cannot simply go on a vacation without informing our Development Managers, and more importantly, our clients.

Today the government has announced a half day for all the organizations due to the ICC Cricket semi-final between India and Pakistan.

But IT Industry thinks otherwise. All the software engineers are sitting in front of their computer screens, working. They are planning and searching where to stream the semi final from without getting caught.

Others made their employees attend their office tasks as early as seven in the morning, so that they can complete their office tasks.

But there are things to consider here,

  1. Do you think (like rest of the country) Software Industry should have given a holiday or even half day, today for the semi-final?
  2. If they are arranging projectors and screens for everyone at the office, then might as well give everyone a leave!
  3. Do you think it is wise and feasible for the vendors to raise the value and amount of projectors being rented out?

Let us know in the comments below.

Well , its customer who always come first!
But there is an important thing that we are missing here…
How can you do your work with your mind thinking of other things(Cricket in this case)
It would be good if the company itself arrange something for the match. Its just half a day (4 hours) but at the cost of quality of work I don’t think Its a good practice to avoid extra curricular activities.

Work Commitment comes first , but such moments comes rarely in life when you can enjoy and celebrate things at National level , so i think if i will be CEO of any company i will go with option 2 if possible otherwise with 1 as half day off.

although the match is over now, but i would still like to share my opinion. I feel there stands no reason when it comes about your Passion. If we still prefer work over Passion then we can say it a compromise! Being compromising is a good thing in its place but some events require passion like this cricket world cup 2011! No doubt, and since we all are eye witness to this, the last week brought all PAKISTANIS under one flag, we were united like One Nation! This is perhaps an achievement in such circumstances of our beloved Pakistan! and these achievements are only attained with Passion!
